Raid Contingencies

Raid contingencies are pre-planned alternative actions or procedures designed to address unexpected challenges during a raid. These plans ensure that operational goals can still be achieved, even when initial strategies are disrupted by unforeseen circumstances, such as enemy countermeasures, environmental factors, or equipment failure.

U.S. Marines with Battalion Landing Team 1st Bn., 4th Marines, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit participated in the Raid Leaders Course at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, April 22, 2016. The course teaches basic marksmanship, breaching, raids, medical classes and military operations on urban terrain. Improving proficiency in individual skills reinforces the MEU’s ability to conduct amphibious operations, crises response, and limited contingency operations.

The unpredictable nature of military operations means that even the best-laid plans can encounter obstacles. Raid contingencies act as a safety net, safeguarding the mission’s success while minimizing risks to personnel and resources. In essence, a well-executed contingency is the mark of a prepared and professional team.
